Google presents the new version of its connected glasses. Designed for business use, Google Glass Enterprise Edition offers a new engine of artificial intelligence, as well as more powerful equipment. All at a much lower price.
Will the third try be the right one? Six years ago, Google marked the spirits by unveiling the first connected glasses, the Google Glass. Dear, they had not met their audience and had joined the long list of high-tech flops.
Two years ago, another attempt with a professional orientation called Glass Enterprise Edition. Objective: to attack Microsoft and its glasses HoloLens, but also Epson who launched the Moverio. More robust and less expensive, these frames of mixed reality are aimed at many sectors such as medicine, mechanics but also research and electronics.
Their primary purpose is to provide additional and relevant information during a consultation or maintenance operation. Whether it is a precise sketch of a piece to be mounted, a checklist or even the immediate sending of a snapshot. All while keeping your hands free to no longer need to consult a tablet, smartphone, manual or computer.
Real Android inside
Today, this approach seems justified since Google introduced version 2 of his glasses connected to the business, and the manufacturer Pixel smartphones improved configuration with a processorSnapdragon XR1 dedicated to artificial intelligence and virtual reality, an eight-megapixel HD camera, a USB-C socket for fast charging, Bluetooth 5, state-of-the-art Wi-Fi. All with an 820 mAh battery that promises eight hours of battery life.
The novelty on the software level is the presence of Android 8 Oreo, and no longer a version specific to glasses. Which means it will be easier to develop applications and services. As for the price, it goes from 1,500 to 999 dollars (approximately 1,345 to 895 euros). It’s three times cheaper than Microsoft glasses.
