Like Porsche, Tesla launches into the track record race

Tesla has just announced it broke the Laguna Seca circuit lap record in Florida with a Model S equipped with a new powertrain. A sign of feverishness as the Porsche Taycan announces itself as a formidable competitor?

The battle between Tesla and Porsche seems launched. While the Taycan Turbo made a name for themselves last month by claiming the fastest lap record on the Nordschleife circuit of the Nürburgring circuit in Germany, becoming the fastest four-door electric car on the route, its American rival wanted his turn show what wood it is heating.

Tesla announced that it had beaten by one second the lap record for a four-door sedan at the Laguna Seca circuit in Florida (United States) in 1 minute and 36 seconds. The performance, which can be seen in the video below, was achieved with a Tesla Model S equipped with a new “Plaid” powertrain and a prototype chassis. According to Elon Musk’s short explanations, the Plaid mode in question is superior to the Ludicrous mode found on the high-performance versions of the Tesla series.

Elon Musk announces that Plaid mode will arrive within a year

The boss of Tesla promised more details about this innovation soon, indicating that it would be available in about a year for Model S, Model X and the future Roadster. It will cost more than our current offers, but cheaper than our competitors,  ” he promises. Anyway, the Laguna Seca record does not say much in itself since it was not established with a production car. But at least this allows Tesla to occupy the media space while the Porsche Taycan stars at the Frankfurt auto show, which the American brand does not participate in.
