OnePlus 7 Pro: Review after a month of use

The OnePlus 7 Pro is one of the smartphones of the year. Futura just spent a month in his company, time to check if he holds the promise of its move upmarket.

The most powerful processor of the moment, an oversized amount of RAM, an extended storage capacity, a photosensor culminating at 48 megapixels. As usual, OnePlus has put the package by proposing the best of it while retaining a price content. For Futura, which has been able to have in hand the previous editions of the mobile, this OnePlus 7 Pro differs widely from others.

On the power side, with its Snapdragon 855 chip, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, the mobile has never failed on a daily basis for a month; the fluidity has always been there. You should know that as for smartphones for gamers such as the Razor 2 or the Asus ROG Phone is a liquid cooling system that is present inside the case to prevent overheating. On this point, in practice, the mobile has sometimes not appreciated the long video sessions. The sudden rises in temperature, however, did not seem to disturb it.

A screen without reproach

The screen, therefore, occupies virtually the entire face of the phone and it’s pretty impressive. Even the ultra-thin speaker is placed at the very top edge. Its tiny grid tends to get dirty quickly. The giant screen Amoled of 6.67 inches (3.120×1.440 pixels ) is curved on the flanks, it delivers the impressive image quality and its frequency of 90 Hz brings a fluidity which is found only on mobiles for gamers. If the 6.67 inches of the screen provide significant reading comfort, as for the OnePlus 6T, it is more difficult to fit in a trouser pocket. You must have pianist fingers to be able to scan the entire surface of the screen with one hand.

A rather disappointing autonomy

It is only at the level of autonomy that the disappointment is carried. With its thrifty Amoled slab and 4,000 mAh battery, Futura was expecting a lot more endurance. In fact, using it neither more nor less than its predecessor, we have empirically noticed that it barely holds the day, while the OnePlus 6T can stay on a good half more day with its screen of 6, 41 inches and its 3.700 mAh battery. The fault may be a larger screen and a faster chip? Fortunately, the Warp Charge 30 charger allows recharging the mobile at 100% in less than half an hour.

Another highlight: the sound, compared to its predecessors, the OnePlus 7 Pro is progressing well, it is even among the best with a Dolby stereo sound. Like the OnePlus 6T, the mobile is devoid of a headphone jack, it will still opt for a Bluetooth headset. As usual, OnePlus does not offer any accessories and sells its own wireless headphones, with Bullets Wireless 2 at a price of 99 euros.

The surprising collapsible selfies sensor

The impression sensor under the screen does not differ from its predecessor. However, what is new on the OnePlus 7 Pro is its collapsible selfie sensor. The advantage is certain, it allows to extend the screen to the maximum and in fact, the border, the notch or the hole in the screen quickly become bad memories.

Unless one is a fan of selfies, we must admit that, ultimately, we do not use that much of this photosensor. It remains possible to use it to unlock the screen: as soon as you press the side button to do this, the module comes out and closes very quickly. Better yet, Futura was able to test the fall of OnePlus with the open photo module. The sensors detect the fall, the module closes immediately. It is very impressive!
