Following the presentation of its new Galaxy Note20, Samsung unveiled the outline of its new foldable screen smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold2. With him, the brand seems to have corrected the mistakes of the big brother.
When it comes to foldable smartphones, manufacturers are always looking for the architecture that will be unanimous among users. After a very imperfect Galaxy Fold followed by a perfectible Galaxy Z Flip , here is the frankly improved version of the Galaxy Fold . This Galaxy Z Fold2 seems to respond to all the criticisms suffered by its big brother when it was released last year.
Unveiled yesterday, during the presentation of the Galaxy Note20 , Tab S7 and S7, Galaxy Watch3 and Galaxy Buds Live, the mobile unfolds in the same way as its predecessor, like a pocket book. It has less rounded edges than before, and the outer screen occupies almost the entire mobile with a diagonal of 6.2 inches against 4.6.
When folded, it looks a lot like any smartphone around. Unfolded, the display area reaches 7.6 inches against 7.2 for the Fold. The displays have a refresh rate of 120 Hz . As another novelty, the front camera is in a punch placed at the top right of the screen. When folded, the mobile is a little over 1.2 cm thick.
A new hinge
The screen hinge is the real novelty of the Z Fold2 . Like a computer laptop, it keeps the smartphone at the desired angle. It also has a cleaning system to avoid damaging it.
One of the other criticisms was based on the fragility of the screen at the fold. This phenomenon also affects all manufacturers who have ventured into the foldable. With the Z Fold whose screen is equipped with an ultra-thin glass protected by a plastic layer, there would be no more this problem .
Aside from this new hinge and this screen that appears to be flawless, not much is known about the rest of its features. Samsung only explained that the mobile is equipped with the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+, which has a 5G chip and a 4,500 mAh battery. We will have to wait until September 1 to find out more.
